Although most people do take really good care of their pets, sometimes proper grooming can take a back seat, sure you run through your pets fur with a pet comb or brush, but is that really enough to keep your pet in their best condition?
A well groomed pet not only looks better, but will be happier and healthier too! All it takes is a little time and patience and your pet will look shinier and healthier.
The first thing to properly grooming your pet is to make sure that their eyes and ears are clean and free from dirt. Your pets ears are especially prone to hidden dirt because it is not a place most owners pay particular attention too, All you need to do is to take some cotton wool and soak them in some warm water, then you just wipe all the inside of your pets ears to get all the dirt and grime out. When there is no more dirt showing up on the cotton wool then you know that they are clean.
Give the area around your pets eyes a quick wipe so that you can get any dried sleep that might of accumulated there. This is also a good time to check your pets teeth as well!
There is nothing more off putting than when your pet develops really bad breath, you can prevent this by making sure that your pets teeth are kept clean and healthy at all times. There are plenty of pet toothpastes and also chew sticks that are designed to remove the plaque from your pets teeth.
Or you could even buy a pet toothbrush and toothpaste, it will really come down to which one your pet prefers! If your pet really does not like you using a toothbrush on their teeth then you could try the dental chews instead.
Next thing to tackle is your pets coat or fur. With most short haired pets you will only need to brush them every few days, but if you have a long haired breed then you will most likely have to brush and maintain their coat everyday! The trouble with long haired pets is that their coat can easily become tangled and knotty, you also need to watch for the fur on their bellies because that can be a place where knots can develop without you noticing!
Some knots and tangles can be so bad that you will have no choice but to cut them out, which then really defeats the point of owning a really nice long haired pet in the first place!
All this might sound like a lot of work and also that it will take a lot of time, but that is not really true because you can break them all down into 5-10 min sections, so that your pet does not become distressed, you could also treat it like a game so that your pet will quite happily in future come to you to be groomed!
